THE GHANA CARD HAS A 10-YEAR EXPIRATION DATE – NIA

Abdul Ganiyu, NIDA’s Corporate Affairs Head, stated all Ghana cards have a 10-year lifetime.

“The card has a 10-year expiration date”, he informed Kofi Oppong Asamoah on Class91.3FM’s morning broadcast on March 23, 2022.

The Ghana Card is expected to expire in 2032 if issued in 2022. This makes sense because technology will continue to evolve and improve. We believe we have one of the best identity systems in the world today, but in ten years, new trends will have emerged and you’ll want to tweak and tinker with the system you have so that it will keep up with the times.

“And, furthermore, after 10 years, a lot may have changed about you that you definitely want an update”, he continued.

The Ghana card has become the national identification card. Currently, it is the sole document accepted for SIM card registration.

Register by 31 March 2022 instead of 31 July 2022.

The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation has consequently extended the deadline for SIM card registration to 31 July 2022.
