BLACK SHERIF GAVE ME A RUN FOR MY MONEY” – KiDi

Ghanaian Afrobeat singer, KiDi has admitted to having feared the impact of Black Sherif prior to the announcement of the VGMA Artiste of the Year.

The Artiste of the Year is the most prestigious award category in the entire Ghana Music Award scheme and every artist who gets nominated in that category hopes to win it to have the bragging right in music in the year under review.

This year’s VGMA Artiste of the Year category was keenly contested by Sarkodie, KiDi, King Promise, Joe Mettle, Black Sherif, and his label mate Kuami Eugene.

KiDi who lost the award to Diana Hamilton in 2021 was hopeful to win it this year after picking four awards for Best Reggae/Dancehall song, Album/EP of the Year, Afrobeats/Afropop Artist, and Vodafone Most Popular Song.

Though he was confident, his only fear according to him was Black Sherif who made waves with his three-song releases in the year under review.

According to KiDi in an interview on TV3 with Cookie Tee, Black Sherif was the only one in the category who gave him a run for his money.

He stated that the battle line was drawn between himself and the ‘Kwaku the Traveller’ hitmaker when Deputy Minster for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey mounted the stage to make the final announcement on the night.
