I NEED LICENCE TO GROW MARIJUANA IN GHANA – Samini

Dancehall artiste, Samini has appealed to the Government of Ghana to grant him licence to grow marijuana in the country.

Samini asked the government to install proper mechanisms for marijuana to be used as a commercial product instead of criminalizing its usage.

The multiple award-winning artiste made this comment in an interview with host Odi Ahenkan, sitting in for the regular host Abeiku Santana, on Okay FM’s Wednesday live.

He recounted some benefits of the marijuana to the national development saying when it is legalized and farmers like himself are giving the necessary assistance to grow the product, it would help to generate revenues for the country.

“I am a farmer. I need licence to grow wee and export it to the industries that use wee for medicinal purposes and every other thing important apart from smoking. If I get the licence to grow wee, I’ll supply to the medical industry, the oil industry…the paper industry, you know different [different] industries which use marijuana as raw materials as base for what they produce”, Samini said.

Samini, who has released his latest hit single “Obaa”, stated emphatically that he is against the smoking of marijuana or the usage of it for recreational purposes but “you should allow farmers to grow because every country in the world has what is viable in the soil…Other places also grow other things as well as wee and sell to other places which don’t grow but it needs it for jeans, paper, oil and soap production, and every other thing apart from smoking”.

He added he will append his signature to petition Parliament to make the farming of marijuana for commercial use lawful in the country.

Okay FM’s “Wednesday Live” is a live band segment of the Drive time show which had Samini to perform on the August 22 edition of the programme.

TRAMADOL, CODEINE KILLING THE YOUTH – Samini Tells Authorities

Dancehall act, Samini, has urged the Food and Drugs Authority to be keen on the current intake of unprescribed cough mixtures and pain killers among the youth in the country.

It is easily becoming a culture among the youth in the country to swallow pain killer pills such as Tramadol and cough related drugs with codeine to get high.

The situation has killed hundreds with others lossing their memory since they take the drugs, intended for other forms of treatment, in overdose thereby ‘altering their consciousness’.

Speaking to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Samini indicated that drug abuse was claiming precious lives hence the need to check the act.

According to Samini, even though there have been several documentaries and educative programs to lead kids and the youth away from drugs, government needs to do more to eradicate such abuses.

“That’s a crazy thing happening right now among the youth. We have been hearing this since we were kids. This is like a clear picture. It was like a myth but now we are seeing kids buy and mix things up…” he told Andy Dosty.

“I know people who looked healthy but now look older due to the effect of the drugs. Before they could come close but they can’t anymore…”

“Don’t drink or take drugs when you know very well you are not sick. It has no benefits to your health…” he advised the youth.

Ghanaian singer Stephanie Benson has revealed she has never been involved in an amorous relationship with musician Samini.

In an interview with SVTV Africa Stephanie explained that Samini is a man who is only interested in ladies with voluptuous bodies, adding that she clearly does not fit that description.

Some intimate pictures of the two surfaced on social media and sent tongues wagging that the 50-year-old and Samini were engaged in an amorous relationship.

VICTORIA LEBENE SLAMS #FEARKILLSDREAMS CAMPAIGN

Actress/Model, Victoria Lebene has slammed an on going social media campaign on fear #FearKillsDreams.

The campaign which seeks to bring to the fore how people live their lives in the shadow of their fears and how they can face their fear enable them accomplish their full potential, features some of Ghana’s leading known personalities such as Nana Aba Anamoah, Kofi Okyere Darko, Brommon, Jon Germain, Samini, Edem, Kemini Amanor and Fiifi Coleman speaking to their individual definitions of fear and what it does to us.

However, Victoria Lebene seem to disagree with the initiators of the #FearKillsDreams because she believes it is people who kill dreams and not fear as the campaign seek to project.

She expressed her opinion about the on going fear campaign via her Instagram.

Read her post unedited below:

“Dedicating this article to some of the young talents in the Creative arts industry and in Ghana as a whole.

I stand against the notion that fear kills dreams. Yes it’s true that fear is the unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger. Unfortunately, negative thoughts and self-doubt breeds negativity. Inferiority complex, low self-esteem, lack of confidence and a lot more. All these are contributing factors to fear but the question is where are all these being derived from?

There are tons of women out there who are one way or the other frustrated, they have poured out energies to no good, they’ve tried seeking platforms where they could execute their talents and aspirations but hardly do they get the chance. Fraustration out of these canker of #SexForJobs #SexForGrades #SexForRoles #SexforEverything. Some authorities that would want sex while they seek platforms to exhibit talents or jobs to better themselves.

I’ve had series of messages through my media platforms of young ladies and their encounter with men asking for help to bring forth their modeling or acting career and some who are even ready to work with me as helps in my house. Look at some young ladies going all out in bikini and semi nude shoots, going out for auditions, meeting with agency casting calls, sleeping in music studios and so forth. Do you ever think they are fearful? Do you think if they were that scared, afraid, they would ever dare to? It’s simply because they do not have the right platforms to exhibit, practice and execute their thoughts and capabilities.

I think it’s high time we embraced talents from all angles, appreciate young talents and crafts, accept people the way they are and help in bettering them even if they have flaws and stop focusing on fear, fear has noting to do with dreams unless there is no hope to live that Dream.

I am standing in for the youth in this country that have somehow tried their best to pursue their dreams and had no opportunity even when they tried. Let’s kill the causes of all dream killers and rather advocate for #dreamkillsfear It is people that kill dreams, not ‘ fear ‘Young generations need genuine help without no strings attached!”

SAMINI ADMITS HE SMOKES WEED & CALLS FOR IT’S DECRIMINALIZATION

Ghana’s popular dancehall artiste Samini wants marijuana or weed to be decriminalized since it has the potential to boost the country’s economy.

The “Linda” hitmaker confessed he smokes the illegal substance but does so in private. However, the award-winning artiste is pushing for marijuana to be legalized.

“I smoke weed,” the Best African Act at the 2006 MOBO Awards told Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Wednesday, August 16, 2017.

He opined: “I know it’s illegal. Whether I do or not… I do it in my current privacy. I don’t smoke cigarette.”

“I wouldn’t say yes or no because it depends on my mood,” Samini remarked when pressed whether he still smokes the substance or otherwise.

However, he recalled that “I smoked weed in Seattle – because it is legal there” this year.

“Ghana should decriminalize weed and give farmers the license to grow weed since it does well on our soil and allow them to export the substance.

“We can ban it for people not to smoke on the streets, but a farmer with a good soil can be encouraged to package and export,” the one-time Artiste of the Year suggested.

It is illegal to smoke or grow marijuana in Ghana without lawful permit.
