Actor John Dumelo has reacted to a statement made by the former deputy general secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress party, Koku Anyidoho concerning the limitations of celebrities in the upcoming political campaigns.

In an interview with Vibes in 5, the award-winning actor said no political party can do without celebrities because they [celebrities] play a major role in every political party campaign.

“Celebrities played a major role in both the NDC and the NPP campaign. I mean NPP went for celebrities NDC went for celebrities and I think to some extent celebrities actually influence the outcome of campaigns. But at the end of the day, I don’t think political parties can do away with celebrities. I don’t think so,” John Dumelo said.

Commenting on Koku’s statement about the party’s position of not engaging fair-weather celebrities and splinter groups in the upcoming general elections ahead of 2020, Dumelo indicated that he personally had not heard any news of the sort but he did a follow up through an associate by making enquiries concerning the exact words that were spoken, by Party member Mr. Koku Anyidoho.

“When I first heard the story I spoke to a colleague who was there and he said no, Koku never mentioned the word celebrities. I think he said strangers.

“I don’t think he necessarily said celebrities. It would be hard for me to comment if I haven’t heard him say or mention celebrities.

“For him, he can define strangers in a different way, so I don’t know what he meant by strangers. Strangers could have been even people in the party NDC that he thought they were strangers or it could even be outsiders that he thought they were strangers,” Dumelo indicated.

In Ghana, celebrity endorsement rises with each passing general election. Their endorsements have reached a height where celebrities now form networks and groups to promote their choice of candidates. Whilst some are on the side of the biggest opposition NDC many others are for the ruling NPP.

The NDC’s Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama was endorsed by Abeiku Santana, John Dumelo, Mr. Beautiful, Kalsum Sinare, Amanzeba, Bull Dog, Papa Nii, Rex Omar, Belinda Akua Amoah (MzBel), Paapa Yankson and others during the 2016 elections.

On the other hand, individuals like Okraku Mantey, Daddy Lumba, Wisa, Kwabena Kwabena, Sidney, Socrates Sarfo, Matilda Asare, A-Plus, Kwaw Kesse, Cwesi Oteng, Great Ampong, Nana Ampadu, Leo Mensah, Maame Dokono etc. together with groups like Agya Koo agenda 57 for Nana Addo, all solidly behind the NPP’s Nana Akuffo-Addo.

The issue of tithing has been on the discussion table on social media with a section of social media users insisting that there is no need paying tithe to the Church since it is just enriching Pastors whiles Church members continue to be poor.

John Dumelo stating his stands on his Twitter page said “I give my tithe to the needy most of the time. I think they need it more than the ‘church’. I don’t know if it’s wrong”.

Actor John Dumelo says Moesha Boduong has a point in her claim that some women in Ghana depend on men for financial support in return for sexual favours.

John Dumelo on Friday, April 13, 2018, shared a personal experience in which he said several ladies approached him for money to pay rent or school fees and were willing to offer him sex in return.

“I have been in situations where ladies have messaged me to say that ‘…I need to pay my rent or my school fees or some favour in return I’ll offer you something’…,” the celebrated actor revealed on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM.

Dumelo said in such case, he has had to turn them down and give them the needed assistance. “I told the girl that I wouldn’t do that. ‘If you want money, I’ll give you your money for your rent or whatever it is but I’m not going to give you in return for your sexual favours or anything’,” he narrated to host of the Show, Daniel Dadzie.

Social media has been on fire since Wednesday, after a video emerged of Moesha Buodong telling CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in a documentary that her motivation, just like other women in Ghana, for dating married men, is because the economy is tough.

“In Ghana, our economy is such a way that you need someone to take care of you. You can’t make enough money as a woman here. Because even when you want to get an apartment, in Ghana they take two years’ advance and I just started working where will I get money to pay?”

Moesha has severely criticised for denigrating Ghanaian.

John Dumelo aligns with Moesha’s statement but departed from her generalisation that women in Ghana depend on men financially.

“What I find wrong is that she generalized it and said every woman in Ghana depends on a man financially…”

He reasoned: “Maybe what she should have said was that some women including herself, would probably have something to do with a man who would give her rent or give something of that sort in return for certain favours”.

He described the situation as a matter of “demand and supply” because there are equally men in society who also depend on women for survival, a cause he abhorred because “…you can find alternative ways of solving your problems”.

Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has taken to his social media handle to encourage partners to stay and fix problems in their marriages and relationships when things are not working as expected.

According to the actor, “Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect”. Being in a relationship is all about compromise and tolerance. Partners need to understand that no one is perfect.

He explained that “pride doesn’t solve problems.” Marital and relationship situations can be transformed only when your pride doesn’t come in the way.

“Don’t think walking away will solve the problem. If things are not working in your relationship/marriage, you stay and fix it” he wrote.

Most partners often think escaping from a problem is the best way to solve it, however to the actor, partners must learn to hang on to every difficult situation and find ways to solve it.

Problems don’t get solved by themselves when left alone. Individuals need to fix those problems in order to save their marriages and relationships.

“If things are not working in your relationship/marriage, you stay and fix it. Don’t think walking away will solve the problem. Everyone makes mistakes and No one is prefect. If God walked away from you everytime you sinned, where would you be by now. You are the better half remember? Call your partner up, say a prayer and let God do the rest. Pride doesn’t solve problems….prayer does.  #Prayeriskey”
