It appears one of Ghana’s most consistent and successful hip-life groups 4X4 is on the the verge of breaking up.

Speculations of the group’s eminent breakup has been rife in the media for some time now but group members Captain Planet (Sylvanus Dodji Jeoffrey) and Coded, formerly Abortion (Raphael Edem Avornyo) and Fresh Prince (Prince Tamakloe), have rubbished the speculations on several occasions.

However, Coded’s new revelation points to the fact that all not is well in the camp of the “World Trade Centre” music group.

In an interview on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review”, Coded who is currently in America has disclosed that, he has not spoken with the group leader Captain Planet in the last 6 months.

“I have not spoken with Captain Planet for last 6 months”,Coded stated.

Asked why he hasn’t spoken to his group member for that long, Coded explained “We communicate through our WhatsApp group, but it not like we talk as in he calling me or me calling him because he is a busy person and I am also busy on my side. We go to the studio to record, so don’t get me wrong”.

According to Coded, the fact that he hasn’t spoken to Captain Planet on phone for the past 6 months doesn’t mean the group is breaking up.

“I am not saying we don’t talk as in there is a misunderstanding but if anything at all, we share information on our WhatsApp group”, he stated.

Coded also stated that they decided as a group to release solo singles as individual artistes, so Captain Planet has released a number of singles, Fresh Prince has also released a number of singles and even though he (Coded) is yet to release his solo single, they realized that the solo singles were sending wrong signals and fueling the speculations that the group has collapsed, so they halted their respective solo projects to work as a group.

The group has currently released a new single titled “Duabo”which features Rapper Sarkodie.

With most music groups not lasting as long as they have, eye brows were raised when Fresh Prince of the award winning music group, 4X4 released solo songs last year.

This action quickly sent the rumour fire burning that they had joined other defunct groups in ‘splitville’.

Captain Planet, leader of the group did not help matters when he released a solo single Sangbelegbe early this year adding fuel to the burning rumours.

But he dispelled the claims that they had split up when he spoke with Showbiz in an interview last Saturday.

He defended the action of members of the group doing solo project as a wise decision which would help them to build their individual potentials and enhance their creativity.

According to Captain Planet, another reason to pursue solo music projects was to respond to the demands of their fans who have been craving for their single-handed works.

At the beginning of 2016, we made it clear that we were pursuing solo projects and that saw Fresh Prince release his songs. The group isn’t going solo. We are just releasing songs individually because our fans feel we are limited when we work on a piece together.

“You can’t exploit your talent fully as a member of a group but the opportunity abounds when you are on a solo project. That has been the wish of our fans, to hear something from us individually,” he stated.

The excuse pursuing a solo project even when a group has broken up or is on the verge of break up seems to be the defence put up whenever members of such music groups are questioned in recent times.

For example, it had been the same story when Hiplife group, Dobble announced a decision to pursue solo projects but later came out to confirm a break up.

Captain Planet’s defense could be flawed as an investigation by Showbiz has revealed that he has set-up an individual account on social media as an artiste.

4×4 was formed in 2000 by Captain Planet (Sylvanus Dodji Jeoffrey) and Coded (Raphael Edem Avornyo) with the help of Buk Bak. Fresh Prince (Prince Tamakloe) joined the group in 2007.

Some of the songs from their repertoire are Yesi Yesi, Kpagam Kpagam, HotGirls.com, Baby Dance, Tantalising, Baby Dance, Auntie Dede, Atongo among others.

Coded, a member of hiplife music group 4×4 who was involved in an accident on Wednesday evening in Accra has been discharged from the hospital.

The singer announced the good news on instagram Sunday morning February 12 with a picture of him in a wheelchair.

In his post, he thanked his fans for their prayers for him after his accident.

He said “Overwhelmed is an understatement to describe the love i have received from everyone. Thank you soo much for your concern. God has been good to me. I am okay and responding to treatment. #Godislove”.

Raphael Edem Avornyo well known as Coded (formerly Abortion) was involved in a near-fatal accident in an upscale area in Accra.

The unfortunate incident happened at about 10pm on Wednesday night February 8 at East Legon in Accra.

Coded was driving from A&C Shopping Mall at East Legon, after a meeting, when a Toyota Camry slammed into his KIA four wheel drive (4WD) from the driver’s side.

4x4 -2Hiplife trio 4X4 have denied rumours that marriage is what is affecting the group’s shine in recent times.

Captain Planet and Coded are both married and this some pundits believe is part of the reason why the group is not as vibrant as they used to be.

The “World Trade Center” hit makers have however denied that assertion including Fresh Prince who is still single “I am not married yet but I don’t think the marriage of my group members have affected us in any way. Their marriage has motivated me to also get married soon”, Fresh Prince stated.

“Marriage has not affected us in any way. How can marriage affect us? In fact marriage has rather made us matured and more responsible. Marriage has rather made us even stronger as a group”, Captain Planet leader of the group told Peacefmonline.com.

Captain Planet who believes the group is matured now, in a separate interview, said on Hitz FM that the group has moved from composing just any song for their fans to writing mature songs. The rapper said the brand 4×4 has grown and now appeals to a certain class of people hence they have to release songs which will meet the expectation of such people.

He continued that they are very mindful of their lyrics when composing songs because they think about the negative effect it will have on their brand.

“As you grow, there are certain things you cannot say anymore so it keeps you in a different position of composition. You can’t be composing the same songs as you used to do at your youthful stage. I can’t say some of the things I used to say anymore because the more you grow, the more people respect you and the more kids look up to you. When you see the kids or some of the new acts saying some things and people feel like they are hot, I did that when I came into the game in 2003. As you keep growing, your composition needs to change. You are appealing to a different class of people so you need to change. We do mature songs. Listen to most of our recent songs and you will know that most of them are matured” Captain Planet.

Coded married Hospitality Executive, Maame Afua Agyeiwaa Opare in 2012 and Captain Planet married former Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Ghana Uche Ofodile in June 2014.

The group made up of Captain Planet (Sylvanus Dodji Jeoffrey), Coded, formerly Abortion (Raphael Edem Avornyo) and Fresh Prince (Prince Tamakloe), have just released both the audio and visual for their new single title “Atongo” which features Prince Bright of Buk Bak.
