It is almost a taboo for women to propose marriage to men in Ghana and Africa in general, but Broadcaster Akumaa Mama Zimbi believes its time that culture changes.

Many are of the opinion that the challenge in proposing love to someone of the opposite sex can be tricky and risky. However, Sex therapist Akumaa Mama Zimbi has said proposing marriage to a man should not be an issue to women.

She told Bola Ray on the Starr Chat show on Starr FM, to propose to a man a lady claims to love isn’t primitive as society has made it to look so.

“Yes! Women can propose marriage to men as well… It’s very important. There’s absolutely nothing wrong if a woman propose to a man. When my husband met me, he proposed and I told him, I’ve heard but as time goes on, I told him I love you more. When a person tells you ‘I love you’ doesn’t mean he has married you.”

In the Ghanaian culture and tradition, it is the man who is expected to propose. The woman is expected to show initial resistance or ‘woman do’ before she gives in no matter how much she loves the man.

A woman who proposes to a man is seen as fast, pushy, cheap, desperate and worthy of love because she has given ‘scholarship’ to a man.

Mama Zimbi also disclosed that generally Ghanaian women are romantic but tradition has shut it. According to her, the education needed before and during marriage are not given by parents.

The mother of six also stated that sex plays a very essential part in a successful marriage and urged women not to shy away from such conversations with their husbands.

There is no joy in seeing one’s staff, especially in the media industry, poached by a competitor.

The radio and television business in Ghana, stuffed with some gifted personalities, has evolved into one of the most coveted crafts in the country, and the veiled rivalry among some media outfits has further compounded the issue.

This is what currently seems to be at play between two strong media entities, the Excellence In Broadcasting (EIB) Group and Media General Group; over a seasoned female broadcaster, Kemini Nyammani Amanor.

The anchor of a brunch time news programme, ‘Newsroom’, on GH One TV, was earlier reported to be leaving for TV3.

On Monday November 1, 2017, Media General released a statement on that the GH One TV/Starr FM News Anchor was joining their fold.

A statement announcing the move read “Former GHOne news anchor Kemini Nyammani Amanor has joined the Media General Group. The move forms part of the Group’s quest to become Africa’s leading media conglomerate.

TV3, which is a subsidiary of the Media General Group as part of its 20th-anniversary celebration, is also focused on reshaping news and producing stars to remain Ghana’s Number One private television.

Kemini joins the group with years of experience in news presentation, production and reportage. She comes on board with a lot of expertise, having worked as the lead news anchor on Joy News TV, a presenter on Starr FM and many other radio stations”.

However, reports say Kemini has made a dramatic volte-face. Reliable sources confirmed to that CEO of EIB Network, Nathan Kwabena Adisi aka Bola Ray brought his influence to bear by putting a spoke in the wheel of the already done deal; halting the movement of the seasoned newscaster with one of the network’s subsidiaries, to a rival media outfit.

As at the time of filing this report, Kemini was reportedly preparing to return to her news programme on GH One TV.

The newscaster who doubles as the producer of her show, gained much recognition after she broke the news about some corruption at the Agriculture Development Bank which ultimately led to the removal of the then Managing Director.

Her work gained her recognition including a nomination for the Best Television News Anchor during the 2014 Radio & Television Personality (RTP) Awards.

Ghana’s popular dancehall artiste Samini wants marijuana or weed to be decriminalized since it has the potential to boost the country’s economy.

The “Linda” hitmaker confessed he smokes the illegal substance but does so in private. However, the award-winning artiste is pushing for marijuana to be legalized.

“I smoke weed,” the Best African Act at the 2006 MOBO Awards told Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Wednesday, August 16, 2017.

He opined: “I know it’s illegal. Whether I do or not… I do it in my current privacy. I don’t smoke cigarette.”

“I wouldn’t say yes or no because it depends on my mood,” Samini remarked when pressed whether he still smokes the substance or otherwise.

However, he recalled that “I smoked weed in Seattle – because it is legal there” this year.

“Ghana should decriminalize weed and give farmers the license to grow weed since it does well on our soil and allow them to export the substance.

“We can ban it for people not to smoke on the streets, but a farmer with a good soil can be encouraged to package and export,” the one-time Artiste of the Year suggested.

It is illegal to smoke or grow marijuana in Ghana without lawful permit.

The Chief Executive Officer of EIB Network, Nathaniel Kwabena Anokye Adisi, aka Bola Ray, has donated GH¢ 40,000 to the management and children of the SOS Children’s Village in Tema.

The donation formed part of an annual donation exercise by Bola Ray and his family as well as close associates, meant to put smiles on the faces of the less-privileged.

Bola Ray’s donation also comes ahead of 40th birthday, March 1. The former Drive Time host spent the afternoon interacting with residents of the facility.

He was supported by some friends and working colleagues including Mr. and Mrs. Bannerman-Quist (Leeford), Loretta Aryeetey, Ben Adu Owusu, CEO of Express Capital, Robert Coleman of Zoomlion, and Nana Adwoa Anterkyi of Ecobank among others.

SOS caters for over 60,000 children in 125 countries around the world. The project gives children a home, an education and a future.
