‘SAY NO TO THE PRESIDENTIAL SPOUSES SALARIES’ – Abeiku Santana Launches Campaign Against Akufo Addo’s Government

Popular Ghanaian broadcaster, Gilbert Abeiku Santana has opposed the decision by the state to pay First lady and Second Lady of Ghana.

As reported earlier, the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah affirmed government’s resolve to pay outdated salaries and allowances from 2017 when the NPP government came to power to 2021 and that includes surviving spouses of Head of States.

“The truth of the matter is that all surviving spouses of Heads of State, current and former, have always received salaries. Lordina Mahama, Naadu Mills, Matilda Amissah-Arthur, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Faustina Acheampong, Fulera Liman, etc have all been receiving salaries since President Kufuor’s time,” he said.

“What has happened now is that the arrangement has been made formal, but that was done legally based on the recommendation by the Emoluments Committee [in 2019],” he added.

Placing his two cents on the controversial issue, Abeiku Santana pointed out that developed countries who have the means and can afford to do so do not waste money to pay the wives of their presidents and their vice presidents but poor countries like Ghana wants to expend such monies on the First Lady and Second Lady.

He revealed plans to stage a demonstration against the move the government is about to make.

He began a campaign on social media with a post he made on his Instagram page saying, “Listen to advice and accept instruction, so that you may gain wisdom for the future.“

“Even countries that can afford it won’t do that. Say no to the Presidential Spouses Salaries”, the broadcaster added.

HOW DARE YOU DARE ME – Abeiku Santana To Nana Aba Anamoah

Two media personalities are going at each other days after the American rapper, Cardi B never showed up for a ‘Meet and Greet’ session with Ghanaian celebrities.

Broadcaster Abeiku Santana has again taken a swipe at journalist Nana Aba Anamoah for giving him an ultimatum to prove that she [Nana Aba] spoke ill about Despite Media for inviting Big Brother Naija Housemate Tacha to Ghana.

According to the host of ‘Ekwanso Dwoodwoo’ on Okay FM, after giving the ‘State of Affairs’ host evidence that she had had a Twitter conversation with her protégée Serwa Amihere about Big Brother Naija and events in the Big Brother Naija House, she [Nana Aba] cannot deny on Twitter that she does not know Tacha.

Abeiku Santana, who calls himself Mr Tourism before signing off his late afternoon show on Okay FM Wednesday, December 11, stated that Nana Aba Anamoah had always been vociferous about things happening in Ghana, that is, from politics through to social issues and entertainment, so he was surprised when she [Nana Aba] as the ‘girl’s prefect’ could not comment about things that happened at the Cardi B live in Ghana concert, where the event organizers disrespected some Ghanaian celebrities.

He said, “Nana Aba Anamoah you say you’re Sarkodie’s PR and also a fan of Shatta Wale; they have been disrespected by Nigerians who organised the Cardi B event in Ghana… and as girl’s perfect, you couldn’t speak, but you’re quick to speak your mind on politics and other social issues”.

“…After telling you to come and address these issues you give me an ultimatum that I should come and remove my mouth; how dare you, how dare you dare me, how dare you dare me, can you dare me, can you dare me; this should be your last warning. I’ve been advised so don’t dare me,” angry Abeiku Santana burst out in the studio.

He explained further that the Cardi B show was organised by Nigerians who used Ghanaians as the front liners and yet disrespected big artistes like Sarkodie and Shatta Wale (who used a helicopter to go and do his soundcheck) from not performing at the show which came off last Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

ABEIKU SANTANA TO QUIT RADIO

Ace broadcaster Gilbert Aggrey, otherwise called Abeiku Santana, has announced a decision to take a break from Ghanaian media very soon.

According to him, he wants to concentrate on tourism, which he says is his way of life now. Santana made the announcement on Saturday when he was being honoured for his outstanding contribution to the Ghanaian media.

He was given a Lifetime Achievement Award and Media Personality Award at the Pan-African Republic Honorary Awards at a ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Receiving the award, Santana congratulated the organisers, but said, “…I am sorry to announce that very soon I will be saying bye bye to the media because I have found a new love which is tourism which is my way of life. Thank so much Pan-African Republic Honorary Awards for appreciating me.”

Abeiku Santana is one of Ghana’s award-winning radio personalities.

He has had over two decades of work experience in the Ghanaian media space and is recognised as one of Ghana’s celebrated radio icons. He currently works at Okay FM, a subsidiary of the Despite Group of Companies. But it appears he has had enough of the media. He will bow out to concentrate on tourism.

Already, he is doing very well in the tourism industry with his Kaya Tours Company. In 2017, he was listed in top 100 tourism personalities in West Africa by Balafon Awards West Africa Committee of Experts. It is, therefore, no wonder he needs more time to focus on tourism.

OKAY FM CELEBRATES 8TH ANNIVERSARY

The management of Okay FM has launched a month-long programme to mark its eight years of providing broadcasting service to Ghanaians.

The month-long celebration is expected to attract a large number of radio listeners, friends of the station, musicians and other important personalities, including politicians.

According to management, the celebration is in recognition of the valuable contributions it has made, championing societal transformation and giving voice to majority of the people “making it a choice station for the public”.

Some of the activities lined up include donations to some selected needy institutions, live musical shows at some selected shopping malls in Accra to entertain its listeners, among others.

From a humble beginning, Okay FM which operates from the Ship House located at the Abeka Junction, has carved a niche for itself as a reputable radio station.

The station has positioned itself to grow businesses and help clients to reach their target groups.

In an interview with Abeiku Santana, host of Ekwanso Dwodwo on Okay FM and also the programmes manager, he recounted the journey of Okay FM to its current graceful success, but said it has not been an easy journey.

He added that eight years in the life of any institution is worth celebrating and Okay FM‘s own has been a magnificent milestone.

According to him, the station is successful because of its highly dedicated staff, passionate listeners and committed advertisers.

He mentioned that the station has grown within the past eight years with some of its programmes, including its morning show, Ade Akye Abia, becoming the industry benchmark.

“The station has climbed the media ladder of success, becoming one of the most listened-to stations in Ghana currently,” Abeiku Santana added.

He further disclosed that the station’s loyal listeners will be rewarded with various packages, including products from sponsors.

KWAMI SEFA KAYI JOINS CRUSADE FOR LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA IN GHANA

Ace broadcaster and host of Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” Morning Show, Kwami Sefa Kayi has joined the crusade for the legalization of marijuana in Ghana.

The use of marijuana or cannabis, popularly known as wee or the devil’s tobacco is against the laws of the country and any person caught in contact with it is dealt with in the court of law.

Despite countries like Uruguay, the United Kingdom and the United States of America legalizing marijuana for its great value to the socio-economic fabric of these countries, Ghana still sees it as an illegal product which when caught, one could face a jail term of 10 years or more.

However, there is a growing advocacy for a national discourse on the usefulness and possible legalization of the plant.

Seasoned journalist Kwesi Pratt, radio Presenters like Abeiku Santana and Blakk Rasta among others have all called on the Government of Ghana to take a second look at marijuana.

To Kwesi Pratt, Ghana will import wee in 20 years’ time if it is not legalized saying “we’ve seen that it’s useful in the drug market. It is good for hair creams. It is good for body creams and so forth. Why are we not legalizing it? But we’re still using the Police to arrest wee farmers when the real criminals go scot free”.

Also commenting on the issue, the 2016 GJA Journalist of the Year, Sefa Kayi stressed that he is an “ardent advocate for the legalization of marijuana for medicinal and research purposes,” because it serves a good purpose.

He believed the government could put measures in place to control and supervise the use of marijuana, but for it to be outlawed entirely as it stands now, may cost the country hugely in the near future.

According to him, marijuana is useful for medicinal and research purposes, and when put into good use will be a great avenue for socio-economic development.

“I am an advocate for it. So that’s my bias; I am for it…We have what they call social and recreational, that is one leg. I am not for that. There’s a research and medicinal. I am for that. Unfortunately, in our growing up and everything; it’s been social and recreational we’ve looking at. So, we’re programmed to see it as a bad thing but the research and medicinal is a completely different era”, he stated categorically.

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS KILLING GHANA’S ECONOMY – Abeiku Santana

Ace Broadcaster Dr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana believes poor costumer service is one of the major issues killing Ghana’s economy.

The Okay FM drive time host who is also a certified Tourism Operator in Ghana and CEO of Kaya Tours has pointed out that bad customer service is a killer of Ghana economy silently, yet we turn a blink eye to it as a nation.

He has written the piece below after an encounter he said he had in South Africa recently. Below he writes…

“WHY THE CONFUSION?

In recent years there have been numerous consumer and customer bad service experiences on Radio,Social media and in most cases the service providers don’t give a damn about it.

In my experience most customers start-off indignant, then become frustrated before getting just plain angry.

The most common issue for customers is the length of time it takes to resolve their problems. Companies have frequently hidden behind the issue that they could not get the parts, due to technical reasons beyond their control etc.

But for me, this is not only poor customer Service; it is plain bad management and arguably an abdication of responsibility.

Why should a customer suffer simply because a company cannot control its suppliers, repairers or manage its own employees. The frequencies with which these excuses are used is far from acceptable.

My question is why should a customer suffer as a result of a Company’s ineptitude?

How a company can justify anything more than 14 days, or 21 days at an absolute maximum. Even today, some companies expect their customers to wait up to six weeks and even exchanges are still at the discretion of their companies rather than through laid down standards.

When there is a delay in supply or handling problems, it is the supplier who is at fault. Poor attention to detail in a retailer’s handling process guarantees scratches, dents and scuffs none of which will please the customer. Remember that lower prices do not in general generate loyalty but genuine Customer service and attention to detail almost always does.

Bad customer service is a silent killer and derailed a Nations’s economy.

Ghana must kill it , before it kills the economy of Ghana.

You can never separate excellent and efficient customer service from economic prosperity. From public service institutions, private commercial institutions, and non profit organizations.

It is an open secret, from the airport, to hospitals and all public places that even security guards and car park attendants expect tips from visitors before they do their job well.

For some companies, the managers will tell you to find something small for the officer to do his/her job. This endemic attitude has unknowingly been transferred from the employer to employees and now it affects the customer service delivery.

“Let us assume that someone has made a mistake in delivering a service and the person has to be sanctioned, we’ll find people to immediately linking whoever is involved to one political party or the other, church member, opinion leader, relative or friend will prevent the person from being sanctioned. The untouchables are huge stumbling blocks to delivering excellent customer service. There are a lot of unhappy customers who trust very few retailers and hence they tend towards a price driven by decision. Poor Customer Service , a silence killer to Ghana’s economy, my humble opinion.
