South African pioneering rapper HHP (Hip Hop Pantsula) aka Jabba has been reported dead at the age of 38.

Lerato Sengadi, the rapper’s wife and well known publicist confirmed the death to TimesLive.

“Yes, yes it’s true. I am with the family at the moment,” the paper quoted Lerato as saying.

The cause of death hasn’t been confirmed yet.

HHP is one of the pioneering artists of the successful SA hip-hop subgenre motswako (Khuli ChanaCassper NyovestFifi Cooper etc.). He is also one of the first rappers to successfully mix hip-hop and kwaito, and was one of the first SA rappers to achieve mainstream success.

He has gifted us with hits such as “Tswaka,” “Bosso,” “Music and Lights,” “Lekoko La Lekoko,” and countless others, and released several gold-selling albums.

Jabba had just released a new EP aptly titled Feels Good To Be Back after a short hiatus from releasing solo music.

Those who knew the South African rapper and loved his music have been mourning on social media—here are their reactions.

It’s still not real for many that South African rapper HHP is no longer.

Fans, friends and celebrities from South Africa and beyond have gathered on social media to mourn and express shock over Jabba’s death.

HHP, born Jabulani Tsambo, was born on 14 September 1980. He grew up in Mafikeng, Pretoria, a township that would play a central role in the late 90s-early 00s era of Hip-Hop.

Debates in the corridors of South African Hip-Hop historians still ring loud on who exactly pioneered Motswako rap between HHP and his hometown cohort, Khuli Chana.

HHP’s success saw him release critically-acclaimed and commercially successful albums such as MaftownYBA 2 NW and Acceptance Speech.

In one of his most successful single releases, HHP brought American singer, Amerie, on board for the remix of Music & Lights.

Following the backlash he received after posting a semi nude photo of himself and his wife hugging on social media yesterday, October 20, renowned Highlife musician, Ben Brako, who turned 66 today (21:10:2018), has explained his action.

Those of you who were still nursing the thought that the picture trending on social media is not real but a social media trick, forget it, because it is very real and yes Ben Brako shared it himself.

According to the Baya hitmaker, he posted the picture as a result of a sequence of events.

Justifying the sharing of the picture, Ben Brako took to his Facebook page saying:

“Seems some people have not followed the sequence of events that led to me posting a picture of me and my wife in an intimate pose.

“First I posted a beautiful picture of my wife in a classy traditional pose. Somebody suggested that I was like exploiting the feminism of my wife, and that I should post a shot of myself in a similar setting.

“I obliged only because I wanted it known that I’m comfortable in myself to project images that reflect my heritage in a tasty setting.

“Let me be clear. In an era where we’re so mixed up in our mentality that we accept English as our national language, where our national anthem is an English song with English lyrics, where our people are obliged to dress like foreigners to work and play, it is important that someone stands up to declare that our heritage and culture have an important place in our national discourse and should have the pride of place in our lives.

“This I’m doing in my own unobtrusive way which I’m very comfortable with. If even one young person gets inspired by this it would have been worthwhile.

“I have always loved natural poses a la Baya album photo. I as an African man of Ghanaian descent am portraying myself in a way I’m comfortable and happy with. If you are not happy with that, fine. Don’t go take a flying jump, but if you did I would not stop you”.

On Saturday, October 20, 2018, the Highlife legend posted a photo of himself and his wife in barely there ‘outfits’ teamed with beads on social media.

In the picture, they are seen hugging with one of Ben Brako’s hands resting on her almost naked backside and the other cuddling her back while his wife has her hands on his shoulders.

The photo instantly attracted several reactions from social media users. While some people were surprised such a picture bordering on nudity could come from the musician, others were just plainly upset and couldn’t help taking a swipe at the musician.

They did not think the 66-year-old musician should put a picture of his wife and himself with pieces of cloth barely covering their nether regions in the public domain.

Although the photo has since been deleted, it was captioned: “To Kofi Nyaako, and others who only see this as titillation and nakedness instead of the beauty, artistry and African high culture that it truly represents, this is for you as well.”

“I AM ALSO DISAPPOINTED IN YOU” – Yvonne Nelson Replies Gabby Otchere-Darko

Actress and Filmmaker Yvonne Nelson has reacted to what she describes as “disappointing comments” by Politician and Lawyer, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.

Gabby Otchere-Darko who is a very influential member of the ruling New Patriotic PartyNPP) party and cousin of President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo had said in a social media post that the Ghanaian movie industry is being unproductive. According to Gabby, he took time to watch 10 random Ghanaian movies and he was very disappointed after watching.

He wrote: “I took my time to watch randomly ten Ghanaian movies and never felt so disappointed. It brought home to me one major deficiency in our development. The apparent lack of deliberate consciousness on the part of the creative industry in the development conversation.

The presence of the creative industry appears at best peripheral in Ghana’s development narrative. Our movies, our songs, our arts, by and large, do not impactfully plug into a greater development agenda.

Hollywood, for the best part of a century, has been deliberately used by America to push successfully American cultural “supremacy” agenda; it has been used as an effective instrument of military or economic indoctrination.

But, what has been the underlying consciousness behind our creative industry, if any? What role, for instance, can actors in the creative industry play to define and realize this whole important concept of moving Ghana Beyond Aid? We must elevate consciousness in Ghana if we are serious about winning”.

However, actress Yvonne Nelson didn’t take kindly to the comment and she has reacted with a couple of tweets.

She had this reply: “Kumawood has created jobs for so many people! It has Put smiles on a lot of faces in our country! Your judgement is just so low! Disappointing!”

She was not done, she ‘kicked’ him more:

“Hello @GabbyDarko is your interview on peacefm online real?? If it is I’m also disappointed! A few of us are pushing really hard for this industry! Since our leaders have also totally abandoned the industry, we contribute too, just like nurses,doctors..etc”

She went on: “How do you even compare Hollywood to our industry! It’s like comparing our economy to theirs! Leadership!!!!! We need structures in place and some encouragement not this! What do we do when TV networks get cheaper content from India and Latin America?” she schooled Gabby.

Reports over the weekend alleged Wendy Shay has been caught in bed with manager, Bullet, aka Ricky Nana Agyeman, by his ex-lover.

An audio tape which was widely circulated on social media yesterday captured voices of the persons being alleged to be Wendy Shay, Bullet and the ex-manager girlfriend engaging in an altercation.

The ex girl who caught them was furious and seemed like she was attacking the other lady, who is alleged to be the ‘Bedroom Commando’ crooner.

In the audio, the angry girlfriend could clearly be heard asking, “Nana Agyeman you sleep naked…you are going to beat me for the third time. You are disappointing me you sleep with Bullet… I came here to surprise you and this is what you do.”

The alleged Wendy Shay is heard defending herself, explaining that she was just sleeping.  The girlfriend went on to ask her if she now sleeps naked in men’s room.

The alleged Bullet was also heard shouting, warning his girlfriend to stop behaving like an old woman.

The woman also alleged that Bullet did same with Ebony. She caught them and Bullet apologised and promised not to do that again.

The sex allegation claims come days after the release of Wendy Shay’s ‘Psalm 35’ single. She was born Wendy Addo and is a Ghanaian Afro-pop and Afrobeat singer who hails from the Eastern Region of Ghana, but resides in Stuttgart.

Music lovers, especially fans of Hiplife group, Praye, must be very happy that their persistent calls for the group to reunite have been answered.

They are back. It has been seven long years of speculation, hope and doubt but finally the three; Praye Tenten, Praye Tietia and Praye Honeho smoked the peace pipe.

That long waiting time was not easy on their fans but as the group readies to release new material, Gbang Gbang on October 12, 2018 on Peace FM’s morning show, Kokrokoo to officially announce their comeback, the members opened up to Showbizon Tuesday that it wasn’t easy for them as well.

Praye Tietia, who spoke on behalf of the group said the break up was the worst decision they took. “Yes, that was obviously a decision to regret since at the time, we were making it big in the industry so definitely, it wasn’t the best decision we took at the time,” he said.

The group officially announced their break up in 2012 at a time their career was at an all time high. It was Praye Tenten who left the group first and although there were expectations that he would come back to the fold, that did not happen.

In 2014, the two who had been holding the fort, Praye Honeho and Praye Tietia, also parted ways.

They went solo and released a couple of songs but they could not recapture the magic they made as a group and that, Praye Tietia said had revived the relevance of unity to them.

“The truth is that what we sought to achieve as solo artistes could never happen compared to how we performed as a group. At least, everyone knows that we need each other’s strength to excel so nobody will feel superior over the other.

“If in times past, I thought I was the best or any other member exhibited that, we know our real size now and as we get back together again, we would appreciate everyone’s input. Seven years is long enough to right the wrongs in our lives.

“At the time, we were young men enjoying fame but today, we are all married with our respective families and that means we have to show a lot of respect for one another.

“As I said earlier, the break up was one of the biggest setbacks in our music careers but that notwithstanding, we have learnt the lessons and are moving on. We can’t continue holding on to the past because the future holds a lot of promises than the bitter past,” he said.

Talking about the reunion, which will officially see the premiering of their first song, Gbang Gbang and two other songs tomorrow, Praye Tietia told Showbiz that their coming back together is also to promote unity across the continent.

“The lack of unity in Africa has been a curse and so this is to tell our African leaders and people that unity is very important. We will be holding some unity concerts to drum home that agenda in the coming weeks,” he stated.

Praye Honeho, who shared similar sentiments as Tietia in a telephone interview with Showbiz said, “It is great news for both fans and the group”.

Ruff Town Record’s latest addition Wendy Shay has reacted to an alleged image of her showing her butt during one of her recent performances, which is circulating on social media.

The musician who is on a steady rise with three hit singles to her credit already had to clear the air on an image of her she claims to have been photoshopped which has been trending since late afternoon of Thursday October 4.

Taken during her performance at the just ended Miss Ghana beauty pageant, Wendy Shay’s butt is clearly seen and has warranted a lot of trolls with people making mockery of her.

However, Wendy Shay is not perturbed as she asserts the image was photoshopped by individuals with evil plans to destroy her hard work.

In a post, she said: “My passion is entertainment and I am thankful for my God given talent of being able to sing.

It’s quite unfortunate that in my quest to show it, people who want to belittle what I can do hide behind the internet, as they project lame and shameful images which have nothing to do with me.

Hiding behind the internet and sharing photoshopped images of me will not bring me down. I am here to show my talent to the world and the evil plans you have in mind will not pull me down.

When will these acts stop? Are women supposed to be a laughing stock whenever they want to achieve something useful in life? And fellow women also joining in such acts, will you be happy if I were your sister or relative?

Support your own but you rather prefer to pull your own down. Feminism isn’t about making women stronger. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.” she wrote.

Socialite Pokello Nare, 32, has filed a notice of intention to defend summons issued by her Ghanaian husband, Elikem Kumordzie, 29, seeking a decree of divorce against her.

Her estranged husband, who she met during Big Brother Africa (BBA) in 2013, last month filed for divorce against her saying he lost affection and love before he declared their relationship “irreparable”.

She placed the notice last week on September 28, a day after she was served with the summons.

Kumordzie, a popular Ghanaian fashion designer, is being represented by Harare lawyer Rungano Mahuni of Mahuni Gidiri Law Chambers.

Kumordzie said his jealous wife was harming his professional work as she got uncomfortable when he plays romantic roles in movies.

Pokello’s husband also wants a divorce decree order that custody of their minor child be awarded to her with him exercising reasonable access on agreed holidays. He also wans to pay $500 monthly as maintenance.

The two lovebirds have been on separation for the past year. Pokello moved back to Zimbabwe leaving her husband in Ghana.

Pokello and Kumordzie were married under the Marriages Act at Harare on September 28, 2015, and the marriage still subsists.

“They have not stayed together as husband and wife for the past year since September 2017,” reads Kumordzie’s declaration.

“…such is regarded by Kumordzie to be incompatible with the continuation of a normal marriage relationship. As a result, Kumordzie has lost love and affection to the extent that there are no prospects for reconciliation due to irretrievable differences between the parties.”

In her notice, Pokello said: “Be pleased to take note that the defendant has entered an appearance to defend the above action on this 28th day of September.”

No further details were given. According to the court papers Kumordzie and Pokello did not acquire any movable property together.

Early this year, Kumordzie was quoted saying his marriage to Pokello was a mistake.

Kumordzie posted a short video of an engagement ring with a big rock on Thursday with the caption: “I’m definitely not making a mistake on the next one. The right one.”

The two met in the BBA house in 2013 and got engaged in 2014 and had a traditional marriage in 2015.

After rumours of her breakup with Kumordzie, Pokello in a series of cryptic messages on social media tried her best to project a picture of calmness despite the raging storm in her paradise.

“You will hear good things about me; you will hear bad things about me. Think what you want. I ain’t clearing s*** up,” she wrote earlier this year on her social media pages.-zimlive.

Rapper Kwesi Arthur has revealed in a new interview that although he has money now and can afford to pay for his formal education, he is no more interested in formal education and he is very okay with his SHS certificate.

According to the The ‘Grind Day’ hitmaker, who broke into the music industry with his Hiphop song “Grind Day”, there was no money to further his education after he completed Tema Senior High School so he had to quit and focus on other things.

But now that he has the money, he is no more interested in any certificates; the SHS WASSCE he has obtained is good enough now. His focus is now on music.

Kwesi Arthur was speaking with the host of Cape FM’s Entertainment Xtra, Emcee Bebe on Saturday, September 29, 2018, when he made those declarations.

“To be frank, I have completed SHS but I I’ve no plans or whatsoever of continuing my education. My focus now is on music not in the acquisition of certificates”, Kwesi Arthur said.

When pushed by the host if he will change his mind in the future concerning his education, Kwesi Arthur firmly stood his grounds and said no.

“Errm there’s no way. I’ve never thought of that. Music is my everything for now. I’m thinking about how to cross boundaries with my music comparable to certificates”, he insisted.
