Hiplife artiste Mzbel born Belinda Nana Akua Amoah has reportedly been given an undisclosed amount of money by the Volta River Authority (VRA).
A post by the “E Dey Bee” hit maker on her Instagram page, suggests the said money was part of the organization’s role in helping her embark on her #SayNoToIllegaConnection and #StopIllegalConnection campaign which geared towards her #HelpStopDumsor project.
About seven months ago, Mzbel released a song produced by Fimfim titled “Dumsor” and since then, she has made it a point to educate people on the need to reserve energy and their role in curbing Ghana’s power crisis.
Ghana has been experiencing erratic power supply since 2012 and the government hasn’t been able to find a solution to it. There have been many promises, but none has seen the light of day.
The Volta River Authority (VRA) is an electric power utility corporation established in 196. The primary functions include the generation of electric power.
This is Mzbel’s post on Instagram accompanied with the photo above:
Just received a cheque from VRA to support my #SayNoToIllegaConnection #StopIllegalConnection #HelpStopDumsor Project… had so much fun collecting the cheque. ECG also gave me a cheque and everything I need to make my project a huge Success! Now who says silence is the best way to fight for your reputation?! Hashem God of Israel I bow to You…#Mzbel #MzbelMusic #BeLAndTheCity #TeamHashem #GodOfIsreal #HelpStopDumsor #StopIllegalConnection #SayNoToIllegaConnection #KeepGhanaClean #ShikoMe #MzbelBaybeeee????
The court, presided over by trial judge, Ms Afia Agbanu Kumador, has thrown out evidence tendered in court by complainant and manager of Asamoah Gyan, Samuel Anim Addo, as evidence of threat sent to the latter by entertainment journalist Osarfo Anthony to extort money from the soccer star.
On Thursday 15th October’s hearing of the case, the complainant in the case, Samuel Anim Addo, told the court that Osarfo Anthony and Sarah Kwablah sent him and Asamoah Gyan threatening messages respectively to extort money from Gyan. The court therefore asked him to tender those messages in court as evidence.
On Monday 26th October, the prosecution led by ACP Moses Atibilla, brought the printed messages and asked Samuel Anim if he is indeed tendering those messages as evidence in court and he responded “yes my lord.”
The printed messages bore no name or number of Osarfo Anthony. The counsel for the accused persons led by celebrity lawyer, Dr. Maurice Ampaw, cross-examined Samuel by asking him to indicate to the court that the messages he is tendering in as evidence, was truly sent to him by Osarfo.
In what became a court room drama, neither the prosecutor nor Samuel Anim, could tell or indicate to the court that the said messages were sent by Osarfo Anthony. The trial judge ruled that those messages cannot be accepted as evidence against Osarfo Anthony.
In his usual teasing tone, lawyer Ampaw told the prosecutor in open court, “I’m highly disappointed and shocked at you – that an experienced prosecutor like you did not do your homework well. You people will run away. Trust me (burst into laughter)!
The facts of the case are that the complainant is a businessman and the manager of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation. Prosecution said Chris is the owner of GHbase website while Sarah is a student resident at Dunkonaah at Kasoa.
According to ACP Atibilla, Anthony was an employee of Chris and that in the month of June 2015, an alleged sodomy story involving the skipper of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, broke in the Ghanaian media.
The prosecutor stated that Sarah alleged in a publication that Asamoah Gyan had a sexual affair and unnatural carnal knowledge of her and she became pregnant.
Alleged Extortion Scheme
ACP Atibilla indicated that Sarah discussed the issue with Micah and the two met with Anthony and Chris to publish the story on their website to scare Asamoah Gyan to give them money.
He said Anthony and Chris published the story on their site and promised to publish a sex tape of the affair between Gyan and Sarah in their subsequent edition.
The prosecutor further told the court that a witness in the case read the story on GHbase.com and quickly alerted Samuel to enable them stop the publication, adding that Samuel contacted the publishers on phone and they threatened to make public the sex tape unless a substantial amount was paid or a house was bought to compensate Sarah.
ACP Atibilla said the complainant, in a bid to protect the image of his client, asked the publishers to hold on with the publication whilst he thought of the issue. He stated that Anthony and Chris kept on threatening to publish the video to defame Asamoah Gyan and called for an urgent payment of the money.
Feigning Of Interest By Complainant
As a result, the prosecutor disclosed, Samuel feigned interest to pay and when the publishers were contacted, they in consultation with Sarah and Micah charged a fee of GH¢30,000.
The senior police officer posited that Samuel bargained with the publishers and they settled on GH¢25,000, which the complainant agreed to pay at a meeting at Landing Restaurant in Accra.
ACP Atibilla noted that Samuel, after the arrangement, reported the case to the police. He said on July 29 Samuel met Chris at the restaurant for payment, where an amount of $1000, GH¢6,000 and a cheque of GH¢15,000 were paid to him.
The police officer stated that Anthony was arrested after receipt of the money by the police and the others were subsequently arrested.
ACP Atibilla after having been slammed in the face by the judge’s ruling, pleaded, “My lord, we have to go back and do our homework. We plead for an adjournment. There’s a lot I must hear from the complainant.” The judge therefore adjourned the case to 9th Nov, 2015.
Suspended newscaster and presenter at TV3 Nana Aba Anamoah has denied rumours making rounds that she has decided to leave the station to another one.
Some local news websites and blogs have over the past week been posting a story attributed to kwamesays.wordpress.com that the TV presenter was “heading towards Starr TV”, which according to the story would be the new name of GhOne TV when EIB Network eventually takes over the station from the Multiple Concepts Group.
Although the story doesn’t mention any source from which the story was received, the author claimed he had information to that effect.
However, in a brief phone chat with Graphic Showbiz last Monday, Nana Aba Anamoah emphatically denied that she was going to another television station. She told this paper that she had not spoken to anyone about whether or not she was leaving TV3 and was therefore surprised to have heard that.
Asked whether she would be leaving TV3 to another station, she said she was still an employee of the station and that should be the end of the matter.
It would be recalled that about three weeks ago, Nana Aba Anamoah was suspended by TV3 following a public outcry when she was accused by someone on Twitter of passing off photos of he and his friends at Old Trafford as her own.
Although she later explained and apologised that it was a prank she was playing that went bad, TV3 issued a statement to announce that its most popular television news presenter and host of the breakfast show, New Day, and Saturday morning sports show, Diva Show, had been taken off air.
The statement signed by its CEO, Augusts Dickson, stated among other things that “after preliminary investigations internally, and in accordance with TV3’s own commitment to the highest level of professionalism, Management has decided to take Nana Aba Anamoah off air until further notice.
“As a broadcast network that prides itself in upholding high ethical standards and delivering credible and trustworthy content to its viewers, TV3 would like to assure viewers and other key stakeholders that it shall continue to take all necessary steps to maintain such standards,” the statement noted.
Graphic Showbiz would learn later from sources close to the station that besides being taken off air, the petite presenter was also told not to show up at work till the issue was investigated and resolved and also she would receive half her salary during the period.
Hiplife recording duo, Keche have emotional expressed their displeasure regarding the split of what used to be one of Hiplife’s vibrant music groups Praye.
The duo, made up of Andrew and Joshua made this revelation during their latest interview on StarrFM’s ‘Club Arena’ segment hosted by Bianca Buckman and Nii Ayi Tagoe.
Keche said most of the music groups they idolized growing up have in one way or the other separated, which inspiration wise has affected their career.
“As young and upcoming musicians, we felt it was important to look up to the ones who were already doing it big like Praye and their sudden separation really killed our vim’’, Joshua stated.
The other half of Keche, Andrew also said ‘’It got to a time hiplife groups was the ‘ish’ in Ghana; then sadly the split trend began, way back from VIP (now VVIP) to Sass Squad who also broke up and formed TH4 Kwages to Akyeame who eventually went solo to Wutah’s separation and the exciting trio Praye, made up of Choir Master, Big J Cartel and Kente also splitting really dented the image of groups in Ghana.’’
Praye used to be one of the sought after music groups in Ghana and on the African continent with classic hits like ‘Ma Shody’ &‘Angelina’. The group shot into fame when they won the maiden edition of Nescafe African Revelation contest in Ghana, and went on to win the West African grand finale.
According to Keche, among the various groups, their style was more like that of Praye hence they looked up to them until the trio announced their separation.
“Now you can see how music groups are doing on the current music scene, the influence and euphoria that used to back them is no more. Due to the controversies that follow the split ups, fans tend to lose trust in groups these days as their separation usually cause mixed feelings’’, Keche added.
Keche went on to say music groups should be seen as a brand, emphasizing on the fact that Keche is a brand they have created for the fans.
“We are friends but we are more than brothers and have enjoyed our friendship for over a decade now. Even though sometimes we have our differences, we don’t let it affect the brand ‘Keche’ which has been in existence for 5years now’’,Joshua stated.
In addition, Andrew said, “we pay maximum respect to the brand because that’s what represents us. Praye was one of our favorite music groups in Ghana as we were coming into the game, we enjoyed their songs, performances and their unity but they couldn’t solve their differences or whatsoever trouble that arose among them’’.
Keche concluded their remarks by saying, “unfortunately, Praye isn’t enjoying the glory days anymore even though individually they are putting out their best. Our little advice to every music group in Ghana is that you protect the brand you’ve introduced. Just like any other human institution, misunderstandings will arise but you need to be able to resort to resolving them cos the brand embodies your reputation and credibility on the mainstream scene.’’

Nigerian singer Aituaje Iruobe popularly known as Waje has called for women empower in our societies.
Waje expressed worry about how society treats women in this part of the world and how women stand to be their own enemies when one seems to progress in her life.
She said togetherness of African women will contribute immensely towards the development of the continent. The singer in an Instagram post said Africa should focus on educating and empowering women.
She wrote: “Too often women fail to empower each other. We forget that our daughters too will follow our actions and not just our words and as the world shrinks into a global village, it will also be our fault that our girls are not sitting on the table and contributing to decisions that ultimately affect them.
“There is so much work to do to re-educate the modern day woman to remind her that we are not each other’s adversaries but that there is strength in sisterhood. To teach the generations that come after about those that paved the way for us. Now it is time to open doors for our daughters and sisters and to embrace our weaknesses together and turn them into strengths.
She added, “We can blame legislation. We can blame men. We can blame War but if we do not take responsibility for our future, we only have ourselves to blame! I am speaking directly to everyone, especially women in positions of influence and power. What are we doing to educate, enlighten and empower young women and girls to compete equally in the society?
“It is time to take responsibility and save the world… It is time raise more women! In our case, It is time to educate and empower the African Woman!”
Waje first became known when she provided backing vocals for P-Square’s Do Me. She also featured on MI’s “One Naira”. Her singles include “I Wish” and “Coco Baby”.
Reigning Ghanaian comedian Derick Kobina Boney aka DKB is surprised some people are criticizing him for cleaning Bolaray’s shoes on stage during the just ended Radio and TV Personality (RTP) Awards.
DKB who was the host of the awards night was seen bowing down to clean popular Broadcaster Nathaniel Kwabena Anokye Adisi aka Bolaray’s shoes when he mounted the stage to accept an award and this DKB said he never regrets doing adding that he would do it for the rest of his life if need be because Bolaray means a lot to him and his career.
DKB in an interview with celebrity gossip website Nkonkonsa.com said people should “shut up” because what Bolaray has done for him none of them would do that especially when he really needed that push but Bolaray was there for him and gave him all the opportunities for him to be where he is now.
“I don’t regret cleaning Bolaray’s shoes on the RTP stage because he deserves my honour. First of all Bolaray was a very big influent to my career. As I speak now I am the best event host and the king of comedian in Ghana and in these two areas he contributed greatly”.
Revealing some of the great things Bolaray did for him in the beginning of his career, DKB said;
“My first ever performance on TV on ‘Music Music’, it was Bolaray who helped me. In fact he spoke to them on my behalf and the audition was very flexible and truly I came out pretty good, and then I was given a chance to perform on ‘Music Music’ that was way back in 2006 and as at that time he could tell that I can be comedian and he gave me the chance. To talk about being an MC, I was a young MC on campus and Bolaray who runs Empire Entertainment puts up a huge stage fully sponsored by big cooperate companies to do artistes night I approached him and the next thing I knew Bolaray brought me on stage to host the show together with him and then he got know I was a good MC. So for rest of my years on Legon campus from level 300 to 400, it has just been me hosting all his events on campus and that made me very popular and people got to know of my talent. In fact it was through that I got my first job in life and also looking at him as a personality, he inspired me to believe that you can make it without being an employee”,DKB recounted adding that he never got the kind of inspiration from family and friends but Bolaray gave him that strong inspiration he needed at the time.
The former Big Brother Africa housemate still justified his shoe cleaning gesture
“At the RTP he was the man of the night so why shouldn’t I do this man the little honour of cleaning his shoes? So people should just allow me. In fact I am even ready to watch his singlet and iron his socks. Yes! I am ready to do all that just so people would know that I value him that much and I am that humble to do all that for somebody who has been able influence my career to this point. So anybody saying anything should just shut up. If they don’t know how to appreciate they should allow those of us who appreciate people to appreciate. If you don’t like that person that doesn’t mean I should appreciate him for what he has done for me. I don’t care about how you feel about Bolaray all I care about is what he has done for and my appreciation in return. In fact look at all these he has done for me and money I am making now from all this. And all I have to do it to clean his shoes? Why not? I am ready to clean all his shoes even the ones he hasn’t bought, I am ready to clean all of them and people should leave us alone. They should shut up”.
Evangelist and Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah claims he has no idea who Rapper Criss Waddle is and he has never heard his name before.
Ofori who was reacting to Criss Waddle’s harsh Facebook statement that he (Ofori) was never called by God, said on Neat FM’s “Entertainment Ghana” this morning that he doesn’t know who Criss Waddle is and he if really said that then he (Criss Waddle) just wants his attention.
“It is his opinion. Everybody would say what they want so some of these things I shouldn’t even react to it. I don’t read all those things so I don’t know anybody called Criss Waddle. A lot of people can say a lot of things about you but can you go to their individual houses to reply them? But people know who you are. The fans who like my music and follow me, they know me so someone’s comment about me will not chance anything”.
“Who is Criss Waddle what work does he do?” Ofori asked and when he was told that Chris Waddle is a musician; Ofori said “That means Criss Waddle don’t like the competition coming. This is very simply because I have never heard his name before so maybe be he wants an opportunity for me to say something about him”.
Rapper Criss Waddle released a statement on social media doubting the repentance of Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah. Chris has thrown a direct question to Ofori Amponsah after he released his new Highlife single “Alewa” featuring Sarkodie.
Criss Waddle took to his Facebook page to question the “Otoolege” hitmaker why he’s back to Highlife music.
He wrote; “Ofori Amponsah God never Called You, infact he didn’t even Flash you!!! Why exactly are you back to highlife? S3 Sesia wo p3 Kakra?#?AMGToTHEBLOODCLATWORLD ?#?akaBaako”.
This Ofori Amponsah believes is an attention seeking gimmick by Criss Waddle.
