International fashion model, Victoria Michaels, was the brand ambassador for the recently held Fashion Connect Africa (FCA) event in Accra, and she has revealed it wasn’t an easy task winning support for the event.
According to her, a lot of people around gave up on her when she needed their support the most for the event.
The 2019 FCA was held on Monday, December 30, 2019, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, as one of the events under the Year of Return calendar. Aimed at bridging the gap between the global fashion industry and the indigenous African fashion industry, it brought a never seen before style and innovation to the African fashion runway. It showcased amazing collections from some of Africa’s best designers like Chocolate Clothing, Duaba Serwaa, David Tlale and a host of others.
But it appeared persons who promised to support the event didn’t come forward.
Speaking through a congratulatory message on Instagram, Victoria indicated that the people who gave up on her didn’t believe she and the team could pull off a world standard fashion event.
She is therefore happy she and her team were able to prove them wrong.
“Thank you to everyone who supported this vision from inception and our very special guests who graced the event with their beautiful presence. Quite a number didn’t believe in us, they weren’t sure we could make it happen, hence, wouldn’t associate with the brand or even come on this journey with us until we took flight on that fateful December evening,” she revealed.
“We had intended to keep this entire development of disappointment to ourselves but changed our minds to speak up so that we would inspire someone out there who has a dream. Listen; they may not believe in your dreams but don’t let them stop you from dreaming, instead dream bigger. Do not let contrary opinions and negative energy deter you from going for gold. Run and plan with that vision once it comes to you. Those who failed to believe in you would eventually come back and ask to sit with you on that success table,” she also said.
“We at FCA believe that the creative will more improvement through partnership and collaborations. The time is now. We cannot thank our sponsors enough,” she added.

Award-winning Ghanaian Fashion Designer Ophelia Crossland has been nominated to represent Ghana at the 2019 Qipao Invitational Exhibition at the National Silk Museum, Hangzhou City, China.
The Global Qipao Invitational Exhibition begins on September 22 and will last for a month. It’s aim is to provide cross-boundary interactions between culture and tourism, tradition, fashion, art and life. The theme for design for this year’s event is: “Weddings.”
Ophelia Crossland was selected alongside nine other designers from the UK, France, Russia, Japan, South Korea and Japan after a rigorous submission process in June this year.
The selection makes her the first Ghanaian designer to showcase at the event which attracts scores of tourists and culture enthusiasts from around the world.
“It gives me great joy and excitement to tell Ghana’s cultural story on such a platform. I believe this is a matter of pride and honor for myself and the nation as a whole,” she said in reaction to the news.
Ophelia Crossland used the iconic Ghanaian Kente alongside very advanced techniques in fashion design to create the Qipao.
“For me Kente represents the country’s best and so when we were asked to take up the Qipao challenge, I had no option than to use the intricately woven Kente and it kept really well,” she added.
The Qipao/Cheongsam is the most representative form of traditional costumes for Chinese women. Its stand up collar and tight-fitting nature have caught the attention of the fashion world for decades and is a trend still popular among Chinese women.
As an accomplished fashion designer, who has been in the industry for over 16 years, Ophelia Crossland is not new to global events such as this.
In 2017, she was selected by international Jewelry brand, Swarovski as its West African brand ambassador and was selected to showcase at the Global Exposé in Dubai.
The Global Qipao Invitational Exhibition is hosted by the China National Silk Museum, located close to the famous West Lake in Hangzhou, China.
The Gallery is currently the only institution with a permanent fashion gallery in the world housing a collection of over 40,000 pieces of Western and Chinese textile productions spanning over 4000 years of human creativity.
Ghana’s top underclothing company, Aha! Brands has officially introduced men’s undies, , onto the Ghanaian underwear market.
The men’s luxury underwear, Lawen Taylor by Aha was launched at a swanky fashion show at the Accra Mall on Saturday, March 2. According to Aha! Brands, Lawen Taylor is the definition of comfort and convenience – not too tight and not too free! The various cuts offer a balance that is often missing in men’s undergarments.
The lingerie giants bring the Lawen Taylor product line onto the market after three years of research and development, highlighting its commitment to giving the Ghanaian man, top quality underwear that offer true value for money and also put patrons in an enviable class of immaculate gentlemen.
The CEO of Aha! Brands, Maame Esi Acquah Taylor said, “Our goal is always to serve our society, improve the quality of life and do everything in our creative capacity to protect it. The importance of fashion in achieving this aim cannot be over-emphasised”.
“Made from unique materials, Lawen Taylor men’s underclothing have an innovative U-shaped pouch and are created with advanced, soft, breathable fabrics. They help to reduce sweat and wick moisture away from the skin,” she pointed out.
Maame Esi noted that wearing well-fitting, breathable underwear in a warm climate like ours is now very possible because Lawen Taylor has been carefully made with the highest quality standards to give men all the features they want and actually deserve.
The new product line is tightly curated to ensure that men have options but do not feel overwhelmed when it comes to making essential purchases. There are a variety of styles available, including Boxer Brief, Singlet or Tank Top, Round Neck Undershirt, V-neck Undershirt, and, of course, Poplin Classic Boxer.
Besides providing comfort and convenience, Maame Esi said, Lawen Taylor is a brand that is also positioned to help promote men’s health.
“In that respect, Aha! Brands has established the Lawen Taylor Prostate Cancer Foundation to run a nationwide campaign under the new Lawen Taylor brand to create and promote awareness about Prostate Cancer,” the CEO stated.
This disease occurs in the prostate — a small walnut-shaped gland in men that produces the seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperms.
Maame Esi noted that Prostate cancer was one of the commonest and deadliest types of cancer in men, “And it is our hope that the Lawen Taylor Prostate Cancer Foundation will contribute significantly to the national drive to reduce the increasing cases of the cancer among Ghanaian men”.
The launch event was marked with an exciting fashion show, which was staged by 12 of the sexiest men in Africa, clad in undergarments from the all-new, all-classy Lawen Taylor line.
The fashion show also served as a platform for the selection of official models for the Lawen Taylor brand.
With excitement and passion, the models did their “own things” on the runway to warmly usher the guests at the event into the luxurious and caring world of Lawen Taylor.
The night was topped off with some scintillating music and food, and washed down with some choice wines and exotic champagnes, a mark of the treat that Lawen Taylor has to offer.
Aha! Brands was founded in 2012 by Maame Esi Acquah Taylor, who is also Miss Universe Ghana 2000. Her inability to find comfortably fitting bras and her desire to help other women facing a similar problem, inspired the creation of Aha! Intimates. With her savings and support from her mum, she started to design comfortable bras that would fit the average Ghanaian woman.
Maame Esi has developed the brand from those simple beginnings to a major line of lingerie, which includes a swimwear collection under the label as well as Ah-Qua Swimwear.
The former beauty queen and entrepreneur said her company was pleased to welcome the Lawen Taylor line, which is designed distinctively for men.
