Ruth Quashie, a Business Administration graduate who hails from the Central Region eclipsed 120 young women from across Ghana with her ‘confidence, attentiveness and beauty’ to win the coveted title last Saturday (2nd September).

Awarded to her in front of high profile guests and other top dignitaries that included big names from the country’s entertainment industry, Ruth came into her own as she went head to head against nine other finalists.

“From Day One, Ruth caught our attention” revealed the pageant’s Head Judge and fitness guru, Sean Guy.

“She’s very attentive, very confident and obviously very beautiful. One of the moments that solidified her as a contender for the crown and the eventual winner, was the ‘plank challenge’. This is a physical task that requires a lot of mental strength and determination, which are both attributes for winning the overall Miss Universe contest,” she added.

Former Miss Universe Ghana 2004 titleholder and the pageant’s current National Director, Mrs. Menaye Donkor Muntari added, “The excitement in the aftermath of the event is still palpable. It’s been an amazing journey for us all and I’m extremely proud of all the ladies who participated in the event. This year, I thankfully found the courage to step forward; not only to prove to everyone else that I am a winner, but most of all to prove to myself that I can achieve whatever I put my mind to. So far, this experience has convinced me that my journey and courage will serve as an inspiration to hundreds of young girls who want to chase their dreams too,” she noted.

The UK edition of ‘Ghana Meets Naija’ concert came off last night, August 25, 2017, with show-stopping artistes lineup and memorable performances.

The event which is described as one the biggest events organized in London by Ghanaians, saw UK based artistes ReggieNBollie, Kwamz & Flava, Eugy and a long list of DJs to battle and entertain the thousands who showed up for the much publicized event.

The event also witnessed electrifying performances from celebrated and award-winning artistes from Ghana including Dancehall King Shatta, BET Award winning Stonebwoy, Sista Afia among others.

The 02 was lit; a crowd of two generations—as young as 18 and as old as 50.

However, Nigerian act Burna Boy who was the only major Nigerian artiste billed to represent Nigeria on stage in London was not seen on stage and organisers have given any reason yet, why the “Run My Race” hit maker was absent. Hence the event was more of “Ghana In London” or better still “Stonebwoy meets Shatta Wale” rather than “Ghana Meets Naija” because almost all the artistes who performed on stage were either Ghanaian UK based or artistes based in Ghana who flew to London to be part of the concert.

The concert held at the 02 Arena, London, is aimed at taking Ghanaian and Nigerian music to another level and it attracted over 5,000 Ghanaian and Nigerian music fans in the UK and other African nationals.

Ghana Meets Naija UK was organised by Empire and sponsored by uniBank, British Airways, RigWorld, MenzGold, among others.

The Golden Movie Awards 2017 will kick off  9pm and will be broadcasted live to millions of people in the continent of Africa on Africa Movie Channel. The awards  is the biggest night in the African movie calendar. Before the glamorous event, there will be a pre party on the 21st of July.

The Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAA) is an annual event that seeks to award excellence in movie making on the African continent and the African diaspora.

Instituted and organized by NMJ Ghana and its partners, the GMAA brings together professionals in filmmaking in Africa once every year to celebrate, promote and reward those who have excelled in their area of the film industry.

Even before dust settles on concerns that not even one Kumawood movie got nominated for this year’s Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAA) because the jury says the submitted movies are of poor and substandard quality, organizers have settled on four hosts for the event, and three of them are Nigerians and the fourth one is speculated to be half Ghanaian and half Nigerian.

It is not clear whether on the issue of selecting hosts for the event, the organisers did not find ‘suitable’ Ghanaians and, therefore, had to rely on three Nigerians.

The GMAA is scheduled for Thursday, July 22 at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra, and NEWS-ONE has gathered that the red carpet will be jointly hosted by Ghanaian/Nigerian international model Victoria Michaels and Nigerian actor Sir Uti Nwachukwu, who was a representative from Nigeria in Big Brother Africa.

The main event, according to information NEWS-ONE has gathered, will be handled by two Nigerian celebrities- actress Osas Ighodaro Ajibade and the celebrated Ayo Makun- a multi-award winning Nigerian actor, comedian, radio and TV presenter.

Osas Ighodaro Ajibade is a Nigerian actress with a huge following and appeal in Ghana. She was actually born in Bronx and won the Miss Black USA pageant in 2010.

There is little doubt about her ability to host the event after her sparkling performance when she co-hosted the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2014.

Osas has a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University and a degree in Broadcast Journalism, with dual minors in Entrepreneurship and Theatre from Pennsylvania State University.

AY Makun

The full name is Ayodeji Richard Makun, known simply as Ayo Makun or even AY Makun. He is a multi-talented showbiz icon who has done exploits in the fields of television and radio presenting, comedy, acting and journalism.

AY is a ‘Warri’ boy and has his own show, the A.Y. Live Show, as well as the A.Y. Comedy Skits.

He is a graduate of the Delta State University and was made a United Nations Peace Ambassador in 2009.

Vica Michaels

Victoria Michaels is a Ghanaian cum Nigerian lady who quit her banking job to become a professional model.

Prior to that, Vica actually started hitting the runway at age 19 after she won first runner-up position at the Miss Francophone Ghana beauty pageant.

She was personally groomed into the professional fashion fraternity by legendary fashion icon, Kofi Ansah, of blessed memory.

Vica holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Central University Ghana and a diploma in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

Sir Uti Nwachuku actually broke into limelight when he represented Nigeria at the Big Brother Africa contest in 2008. Before that, he had some fame because he had participated in ‘Next Movie Star’ competition.

Uti has a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science and Education from the University of Benin. He has hosted several big shows, including the City People’s Fashion Awards, Children of Haggai Charity Show, The Exquisite Awards, Soundcity Music Video Awards and several others.

The GMAA is organised by NMJ Ghana and the 2017 edition has a partnership with African Movie Channel (AMC) to broadcast the ceremony on multiple channels in 17 African countries and some European countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, Zambia, Burundi, Ghana, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Congo DRC, Congo Brazzaville and Zimbabwe.

Other countries include UK, France, Germany and The Netherlands.

According to organisers, the vision of the Golden Movie Awards is to make the works of African filmmakers attractive enough for a global appeal.

“Since its inception, people have had great testimonies, miracles and each year has been better than the previous years. The purpose of gathering is to launch Tehillah Experience 2017 and to begin our campaign towards what I believe will be the biggest worship experience this year,” he said.

Mr. Twum – Ampofo added that over the years the Ohemaa Mercy Ministry has been dedicated towards helping the poor and needy. He said they had toured various prisons to preach the gospel to them and also offer humanitarian services.

Ohemaa Mercy urged all to be part of this year’s concert. She said it is a free event that only requires one’s prayers as means of support.

Themed ‘The Cross Effect’ Ohemma intimated the need to benefit from this year’s Tehillah Experience by joining hands in unadulterated worship.
