Nigerian Singer Tiwa Savage was one of the best performers on the Ghana Meets Naija 2017 stage but a little act by the “Eminado” Singer is almost taking away the shine of her unforgettable stage craft.

Tiwa who came on stage holding a Ghana flag, dropped the flag on the floor at some point as her performance heated up and this has attracted heavy backlash from Ghanaians especially on social media describing her action as disrespectful to the nation and its citizens.

Tiwa Savage has not commented yet about her action which perhaps may be unintentional or harmless but some Ghanaian are commanding an apology from the Nigerian Singer.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians have come to the defence of Tiwa Savage arguing that her act was not intentional and that she dropped it to be able to perform freely inside the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday May 27, 2017.

They are Ken Addy, a radio presenter with Joy FM and member of the Ghana Cinematography Board of Control and Asare Hackman of Hacky Films and also a member of the Cinematography Board.

Director of the Golden Movie Awards Africa, Mimi Andani described the addition of the two gentlemen as very important for the organisers as they bring a world of experience to the scheme.

“For us at the GMAA it has been a conscious effort every year, since we started this project, to ensure that we improve on the next one,” she said. “We know the second edition of the awards was an improvement on the first one and we are aiming to ensure the third edition will be an improvement on the second one. It is the reason we have been doing all the necessary things to ensure we meet that objective, including adding these experienced gentlemen to the jury.”

In a related development, sound engineer and entertainment critic, Fred Kyei Mensah has been appointed as the spokesperson for the jury of the 2017 edition of the GMAA. Fredima, as he is known in showbiz circles, has been a member of the jury since the inception of the GMAA and the jury hopes he would bring his wealth of experience to the new appointment.

GMAA gives the opportunity to African filmmakers from around the world to receive praise, recognition and be awarded for their efforts at telling the African stories to both Africans and the rest of the world by submitting their works for consideration each year.

This year the scheme requested films of all genres and lengths with any official language or subtitled in any official language. All films received will be screened and shortlisted by the Selection Committee based on the awards’ criteria for the consideration of the jury.

Award winning films in the various categories of the scheme will be chosen based on merit and the content of the films by the jury made up of experienced filmmakers and film industry practitioners of different nationalities. Only films made between 1st January 2016 and 31st January 2017 would be considered for in the 2017 edition of awards.

To make fair and just decisions in its choice for the various winners at the GMAA, the jury will consider relevant African stories, relevant methods of storytelling, technical excellence and other important factors of filmmaking.

In an earlier statement, Mimi Andani noted how there had been increase in the submission of films for this year’s edition when it closed on May 10.. “We are glad to announce that by close of submissions the GMAA had received films from different African countries with 44.8% more entries received this year compared to last year.”

She also noted that entries for this year’s event came from West, East, Central and Southern Africa. Countries from which entries were received include Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leon, Cameroon, South Africa and Kenya.

According to Mimi Andani, more entries were received from Ghanaian filmmakers than from the other countries. “During the first two GMAA events, Nigeria topped the list of films received, however Ghana has taken over this year with a lot of series and short films,” she mentioned.

This year’s event, which is scheduled to take place on July 8 in Accra, is the third edition and consequently will see three legends of the African film industry (to be chosen by the jury) being awarded.

The annual GMAA is an initiative by NMJ Ghana and its Ghanaian and international partners to reward excellence in filmmaking on the Africa continent and among Africans in the diaspora.

Sexy Actress Victoria Lebene Mekpah who has been in the news for dating veteran Actor Kofi Adjorlolo, has revealed in an exclusive interview with that it all over.

According to Victoria she has being going through a lot especially with her family members since her relationship with Kofi Adjorlolo became public, and she has gotten to a point where she has to choose between her family and Kofi Adjorlolo.

Victoria told that her father S.P Victor Mekpah who is a retired Chief Superintendent Officer of Ghana Prison Service has been against her relationship right from day one and he has always maintained his position that he will never give his blessing, if she decides to go ahead to marry Mr. Adjorlolo.

She said she was happy with Kofi but her happiness would never be complete if her family and especially her father is not part of it, stressing that she has has been put in a very difficult situation to choose between two old men- her lover Kofi Adjorlolo and her father and she has decided to choose family over love.

“I just think that I want to make it up to my father and the reason is that, he hasn’t been in agreement with the wedding and the whole marriage thing going on between me and Kofi Adjorlolo. It is something that has always been at the back of my mind that my father is not in support of it. So I have decided to make my father proud and to let him know that I have listened to him and I don’t want the marriage to come between me and my father because he is one of the reasons why I am who I am today”.

She also disclosed that the main reason why her father is against her romantic relationship with Mr. Adjorlolo is their age difference.

“He knows me better and my father has been like my first boyfriend so I think he wants me to get someone younger. He said he is not comfortable with Kofi definitely because he is much older than I am”.

Victoria however, insisted that this decision is her personal decision and not because of what people are saying or because of the things Counselor Lutterodt said about their supposed pending wedding.

“I would like to let someone know that this decision is not because of what Counselor Lutterodt said or what I have heard in the media, the comments, pictures, videos and every other thing concerning this news. I just want everybody to know that this decision has completely nothing to do with it. Its just my father being the other case beside all the social media issues and I just want him to be happy because without your father’s blessing your marriage can’t flourish”.

She said Kofi Adjorlolo is aware that her father doesn’t approve their relationship, adding that this is the reason why their much anticipated wedding have been hanging for sometime now but she wants to end it all and move on.

“That’s why the wedding has being hanging all this while and I know a lot of people were expecting to see whether we were going to get married or not but whichever way, they thought something was coming and I also thought that I could still buy some time and see if my father would change his mind but he is still not happy so I want to make him happy”.
